Explosion protection

ATEX

Wherever flammable materials are manufactured, processed, transported, stored or worked with, safety plays a particularly important role.

In order to ensure the highest possible level of security in these areas, legislation has developed corresponding requirements in the form of laws, ordinances and standards. These must be implemented by the companies, because the operator is responsible for safe operation.

ATEX is a widely used synonym for the European Union ATEX directives.
The designation ATEX is derived from the French abbreviation for ATmosphères EXplosibles.

The danger area (gases, mist & vapours) is divided into zones 0, 1 and 2:

  • Zone 0
The area in which frequently or over a longer period of time, an explosive atmosphere consists of a mixture of dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist.

  • Zone 1
The area in whichoccasionally during normal operationcan form an explosive atmosphere as a mixture of air and hazardous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist.

  • Zone 2
The area in which, during normal operation, an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture of air and dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mistusually not or only for a short timeoccurs.

Since the various zones are often forgotten in routine or stressful situations, it is advisable to consider work lights that cover all zones (0, 1 + 2).

ADR Bestimmungen
