Areal and area lighting

Whether permanently installed or used as mobile illumination, good area and area lighting extends the day and makes a decisive contribution to occupational safety.

Before a permanent installation of a surface lighting, it is advisable to know the advantages of a renewal, as well as the various possibilities.

  • Retrofit or renewal?
In some cases, it is sufficient to replace existing light sources with so-called LED retrofits in the form of lamps. In order to use the advantages of LED lighting technology, a fundamental renewal is usually the better and more sustainable solution.

  • economics
High energy efficiency and a long service life directly reduce running costs. Pay attention to the lm/W.

  • Less maintenance
With LED technology, maintenance intervals can be significantly extended. There is also less pollution from insects, since LED hardly attracts any insects due to the low UV & IR radiation.

  • Robust construction
LED lights are less sensitive to shocks and vibrations

  • security
Coordinated and good lighting conditions increase work safety. The result is a higher efficiency of works traffic or work.

  • sustainability
LED lights with high-quality components enable an average service life of more than 10 years for lighting systems. Quality products are also easier to repair.

Environmental conditions

In area lighting, there are many different areas of application with just as different environmental conditions. The material, quality and construction of the lighting should be adapted to this.

  • dirt and moisture
In the case of exposed lighting, IP protection must be observed urgently. Outdoor lighting mounted under an eaves can have an IP protection of IP54. However, once the luminaire is exposed and exposed to moisture/rain, products of at least IP65 protection should be chosen. (See IP protection classes)

  • Fire protection
Dust and shavings can accumulate on lights and cause a fire hazard if the surface temperatures are too high. theD marking according to EN 60598-2-24 regulates the surface temperatures on lights for fire-hazardous premises.

Wherever flammable materials are manufactured, processed, transported, stored or worked with, safety plays a particularly important role. If this is the case, clarify urgently regarding the Zone Criteria/ATEX requirements (See information on explosion protection)

Light beam angle

The correctly selected beam angle guarantees that the light reaches where the light is needed. The beam angle is also a key factor in reducing glare.

In the case of low-level area lighting, it is also advisable to consider asymmetrical lighting. This is efficient and directs the light away from the assemblage point in the direction where it is needed. This guarantees better light output with reduced glare.

illuminance

It is recommended, as a basis for good planning, to consider the EN 12464-2 Lighting of outdoor workplaces&nbsp standard. This standard defines the illuminance (lux) of the corresponding work activity and taking into account visual performance and visual comfort.

We would be happy to support you with the lighting planning!
